| General | ||
| How long have you been in operation? | ||
We were open for business on January 1, 2000. See the About Ussection to the left of the home page. |
||
| Why do you use bicycles instead of motor vehicles? | ||
By using bicycles, we are not as affected by external factors such as high fuel, oil, insurance and maintenance costs, so are able to provide a more stable, reliable and cost effective service. Traffic congestion/parking also pose no difficulties. We can get closer to the pick-up and delivery points and so are often as fast or faster than our motorized competitors without the noise or pollution. The very fact that, for every delivery we do, there is a reduction in the presence of a motor vehicle means an improved quality of life for our customers, their neighbourhoods, communities and ourselves. We take pride in providing a service that really has no negative side effects. Everyone wins. |
||
| Are you insured? | ||
Because our typical cargo is not high in value, we cover any potential loss personally. We have various security measures in place on the trailers and carry any of the smaller sensitive or valuable items on our person when away from the trailer. |
||
| Are you licensed? | ||
Fresh Air Delivery’s Head Office is located in the City of Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and therefore it’s business license is issued from them. |
||
| What if some items are stolen off your trailer? | ||
We take full responsibility for all our cargo until it is delivered to you and we would replace anything that went missing. Prescriptions and other sensitive or valuable items are kept on our person, typically in a courier bag, whenever we are away from the trailer. To date, we have not experienced any problems and have various security measures on the trailers. |

| Service | ||
| Do you work on Weekends and Holidays? | ||
We work 7 days a week including holidays although on days when retail outlets are closed our ability to shop is reduced. |
||
| What are your hours of operation? | ||
Although this can vary slightly from area to area, we are generally on the road from first light until early evening. In the Summer, with the longer hours of daylight, we often on the road later than in the winter months. |
||
| Do you deliver in my area? | ||
We currently cover a number of areas in the Lower Mainland. For a map showing our coverage, click here or on the 'Service Areas' tab on the left. We sometimes exceed these boundaries when one of the locations, pick-up or drop-off, is outside our current territory. Check back frequently as we are expanding rapidly. |
||
| The item I want you to deliver is in your coverage area but the drop-off point is not. Can you still do it? | ||
We often perform deliveries when only one of the locations is in our coverage area as long as the distance involved is not too far. Check with us if your delivery falls into this category as we can usually accommodate you. |
||
| What places do you shop at? | ||
We will shop practically anywhere that is not too far from where the delivery is to be made. In this way we cover a wide variety of your favourite retailers and procure food and merchandise you are accustomed to. When asked to shop at stores with multiple outlets like Safeway, for efficiency, we attend the one closest to the customer’s home. |
||
| Will you shop anywhere I ask? | ||
Yes, as long as it is not too far from the delivery destination. This is one of our advantages that differentiates us from other shopping services who are limited to inventory they stock themselves. We can shop at your favourite locations and combine shops at any number of locations into one delivery. Want some groceries, a few stamps, a video rental and perhaps a bottle of wine? We can do it all. |
||
| Because you use bicycles and trailers how are my groceries protected from the weather? | ||
We use weatherproof Rubbermaid containers which hold most grocery item. Oversize goods are protected with waterproof bags or tarps. |
||
| In hot weather how are refrigerated items kept cold? | ||
We use insulated coolers with ice packs for temperature sensitive items. This, combined with the natural air flow past our containers, is far superior to a person taking their own groceries home in the trunk of their car. |
||
| Do you still deliver in bad weather? | ||
We delivery 7 days a week in all weather. Our containers are weatherproof and so are we. The only thing that stops our trailers is a heavy snowfall although we can often carry on with small, more imperative items such as prescriptions by carrying them on our person in courier bags. A properly equipped mountain bike by itself is amazingly adept in the snow. . .There is no bad weather, just bad clothing. |

| Ordering | ||
| Does my business have to sign a contract with you to have you available for deliveries? | ||
There are no contracts to sign and no commitments. You can have standing orders or jobs at regular intervals or simply notify us as you require. No commitments, no hassle, just good service. |
||
| How quickly do you respond to questions and orders? | ||
Emails are usually responded to at the end of the same day. If you make a phone enquiry, we are paged almost immediately but often cannot hear the page or respond right away because we are out in the weather with our pagers tucked away to protect them. To enable the efficiency that allows us to keep our rates down, most of our deliveries are fulfilled the day following an order and delivery times are not specific but based on best fit within a day’s preplanned route. Pages, while on the road, are therefore returned in groups at a few logical breaks during the day’s deliveries so responses can be from just a few minutes to a few hours depending on our activities at the moment. We can sometimes do same day deliveries if they fit into a day’s pre-established route. |
||
| Are you able to take a large order? | ||
Depending on the trailer, we can carry from 6 to 12 of the 68L Rubbermaid containers. We are also able to hook 2 trailers together allowing up to 24 containers. When performing personal shopping we use any number of these containers for no additional charge. For general deliveries, up to two of these containers would fall within the basic delivery fee with additional charges as the number of containers increases. |
||
| Can you pick-up something for us on short notice? | ||
Some short notice jobs are possible if they fit into a day’s pre-established route. Our efficiency however, lies in preplanning our routes the day before and responding to pages at a few convenient times during the day. This efficiency translates to a less expensive service to our customers. |
||
| Can you handle large single items? | ||
We have moved everything from Lazy-Boy chairs, full size oak desks to sofa beds and mattresses. Movement of oversized items is typically done first thing in the morning or last delivery in the evening when our trailers are typically empty. |
||
| I only need a few small things. Do you have a minimum purchase requirement? | ||
There is no minimum. We have delivered items as small as chocolate bars to satisfy customer’s sweet tooth so anything is fair game. |
||
| Can you work when it snows? | ||
|
Snow is the one thing that stops us of it is severe enough to make side streets too slippery to safely navigate. In the Lower Mainland, this has averaged only about 4 days per year over the past 8 years. In these circumstances we concentrate on more critical items such as prescriptions until we are back on the road in full force. |
||
| What happens if the recipient is not home or doesn't’ answer the door when the delivery is made? | ||
If there is no answer when delivery is attempted and arrangements have not been made to leave the delivery in a secure area with payment then we will keep the merchandise with us and attempt a later delivery if possible. A second delivery fee and possibly a stop fee will be charged. If a later delivery is not possible then we will store the merchandise for delivery the following day and make every attempt to preserve any perishables. |

| Fees | ||
| What do you charge? | ||
We are able to keep our fees to a minimum because our operating costs are lower than that of motorized services. We do not have to factor in the high vehicle acquisition costs, fuel, maintenance or insurance and so can pass on the savings to our customers. Our basic delivery fee is $5.00 and, if we are doing personal shopping, there is a shopping fee of 10% of the receipt. Liquor has a ‘per item fee’ of $1.50 per item. These fees can vary depending on the circumstances. For more details, click here or please select the 'Our Rates' tab on the left. |
||
| How does the shopping fee work? | ||
For groceries & general merchandise we apply a 10% charge to cover the time spent shopping. As an example, if a grocery shop totalled $43.00, we would charge $4.30 as a shopping fee. For Liquor we instead charge a fee of $1.50 per item purchased with an item being a bottle of wine or hard liquor. A six-pack of beer is also considered one item. If an item has been prepaid and is ready for pick-up we usually just charge the delivery fee. If the item to be picked-up is in a location that takes time to access such as an outlet in a mall or we have to wait at customer service counters we sometimes charge a stop fee of $2.50 or a wait fee of $1.00 per minute. |
||
| Why is the shopping fee different for groceries and liquor? | ||
Liquor often has a high per item value and can be purchased fairly quickly so by charging the per item fee of $1.50, it usually works out to be less expensive for our customers. We also sometimes cap or lower the 10% shopping fee if the items purchased are of high value and can be shopped for quickly. |
||
| If something is ready for pick-up at a store is a shopping fee still charged? | ||
If the item has been prepaid and can be picked-up easily, we usually only charge the delivery fee. Some pick-up location such as in malls or where we may have to wait at customer service desks, we charge a stop fee of $2.50 to cover those kinds of delays. |
||
| Do you charge the full shopping fee for a single, large value item? | ||
If an item is of high value and can be shopped for easily and quickly, we often cap or reduce our 10% shopping fee. Phone us for a quote or email your query by clicking here. |
||
| Do you take credit/debit cards? | ||
To keep costs to our customers down, we do not currently take credit/debit cards. Personal cheques and of course cash are accepted. We will invoice business if preferred. |
||
| Do you take cheques? | ||
Yes, we take personal/business cheques as well as cash. |
||
| Can you invoice? | ||
| For businesses we will gladly invoice. | ||

| Recycling | ||
| What kinds of things do you recycle? | ||

We will supply the container(s) and replace them with clean empty ones whenever necessary. Every little bit helps, so whether you use a lot or just a few , it all adds up.
