General Delivery

At Fresh Air Delivery we pride ourselves on supplying fast, dependable and efficient service 'in a manner that is unique and environmentally friendly. To enable the efficiency that allows us to keep our rates down, most of our deliveries are fulfilled the day following an order and delivery times are not specific but based on best fit within a days' preplanned route. Check with us for short notice jobs and the need for a specific delivery time.

What is a General Delivery?

In basic terms, a general delivery is defined as pre-paid items requiring simple pick-up from one location and drop-off at another with little delay at either the pick-up or drop-off point. Examples of typical general deliveries we perform for individuals include things like taking your bicycle to the bike shop, dropping off a package/gift to a friend, clothing to the drycleaners, library books, videotapes, prescriptions picked-up and/or returned.

For businesses, general deliveries can be anything from the movement of internal/inter company mail, the pick-up and delivery of supplies for the businesses own use to the delivery of the business's product to their customers. We are unmatched in garnering customer goodwill.

We have also moved a wide variety of unusual and oversize loads such as sofa beds, lazyboy chairs and filled planter boxes but typically move items that fit within our standard weatherproof 68 L. (18US gal.) containers. Loads that require all or most of a trailers capacity usually have to done first thing in the morning or at the end of a day when trailers are typically empty. The approximate dimensions of a container are 18" x 14" (45 x 35 cm) at the top, tapering to 17" x 11" (43 x 27 cm) at the bottom with a depth of 15" (38 cm). Depending on the trailer we move 6 to 24 of these container at once. Oversize loads are kept out of the weather by using tarps, waterproof bags or other means of protection.

Basic General Delivery Rate*:$5.00 per pick-up and delivery. (see below for conditions)

*Payments may be made by cash or cheque at the time of delivery, and for businesses, we will invoice if preferred. We do not currently accept credit/debit cards. Above rates are approximate and based on an 6 km (4 mile) radius from pick-up to drop off. Distances over this are charged at approximately $1.00 per each additional kilometer. If there is no answer when delivery is attempted and arrangements have not been made to leave the delivery in a secure area with payment then we will keep the merchandise with us and attempt a later delivery if possible. A second delivery fee and possibly a stop fee will be charged. If a later delivery is not possible then we will store the merchandise for delivery the following day and make every attempt to preserve any perishables. To get an approximate cost for a delivery use the map found under ‘Service Areas' to select the approximate pick-up & drop-off point. This rate can also vary based on size and weight of the delivery and if specific delivery times are required. Our standard container has a capacity of 68L (18 U.S. gal) and one to two of these containers would fall within the basic delivery rate. We can also carry oversize items on top using suitable weatherproofing such as tarps or waterproof bags. When we perform shopping and delivery, the delivery fee usually remains at the basic rate regardless of the number of containers filled. Where items to be picked-up are at more than one location or the pick-up location is not quickly accessible (as is a retail outlet within a mall), a stop fee of $2.50 for the first or per additional stop, may be charged.

Wait Charges - Where waits may occur at either/both pick-up and delivery locations, wait times are charged at $1.00 per minute. If we are required to handle ordering of meals or other types of preparation/research before transport is possible, this time will be treated as wait time. Ask about special and customized delivery packages tailored to your needs.

We are able to duplicate the results of motorized delivery services without adding to air and noise pollution. Cargo is kept safe and dry in our rugged weatherproof containers. We are capable, reliable and enthusiastic, so you are guaranteed to get exemplary service without any negative impact on the environment.

What is Personal Shopping?

Our most common example of personal shopping is our grocery shopping service. We will take your order by phone, fax or email, travel to the store, park, shop, brave the checkout lines, carefully load your groceries in our weather-proof containers and travel to your home or business. All this can typically take 1 ½ hours or more. Why not spend this time doing what you or your staff really want or need to do?

We have a significant advantage over other food/beverage delivery services in that we are not tied or limited to any particular store's merchandise or personal inventory. We can shop practically anywhere that is not too far from the delivery point and can combine items from a number of locations into one delivery. Need groceries, wine, a video rental and some stamps . . . no problem.

For grocery/merchandise shopping we found that using a percentage of the receipt was the fairest method for both our customer and ourselves. Smaller shops take less time and typically have smaller values so the shopping fee is less. Larger shops requiring longer times in the stores result in higher receipt values and so higher shop fees. For a typical grocery shop for an individual, the shopping fee works out to approximately $5.00 - $6.00 per hour. In the purchase of liquor we went with a ‘ Per Item Fee' because of the high individual value of the merchandise and faster shop times. In most cases this method results in lower cost to our customer.

Personal Shopping and Delivery Rates*: $5.00 delivery charge plus 10% of the grocery receipt (to cover the time spent shopping). Liquor store shopping time is charged at $1.50 per item with one item defined as one bottle of wine/liquor or one 6 pack of beer. (see conditions below)
